Spotlight: Marta May

Today Award Winning Wedding Photographer Marta May shares her favourite 2 images and why she loves them so much.

WHY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?

There are many reasons but here are just two of them. We saw our professional wedding pictures and couldn’t believe how beautiful they were – We couldn’t believe that you can actually create something so pretty for another couple! They brought us so much joy and we thought how cool it would be to give a similar joy to others! I also had that really horrible boss back then, so I properly started thinking about finding another job. I added the two motivations together and started learning about photography, there was no time left to waste!

Marta’s 2 Spotlight photos

We chose this photo because of the story behind it. The bride’s dad. He was in his 90s and he couldn’t even stand for too long – and here he was dancing with his daughter, on her wedding day. The bride’s story was so special. She met the groom at Uni, they were together and then split up. She got married, had kids. He never got married and he always had this dream of her walking up the aisle wearing a veil. His dream came true and the bride’s dad was there with her.

This story is so special to me because my dad passed away years before our wedding so I always pay special attention to the father-daughter bond at weddings. I can see that bond all the time – happy brides, emotional dads, fun dads, proud dads. But this story really was extra special.

We like this picture because of all the fun – we LOVE capturing fun at weddings. Weddings are emotional, can be romantic but we are especially drawn to all those fun and unexpected moments that happen between the planned moments. When our couples are looking back at their pictures 20 years from now, we want them to FEEL the atmosphere of the day, we want them to laugh and relive the day how it really was. We want to create pictures that not only look nice but also FEEL amazing, all emotions included. That’s something we always try to achieve.
