Today it’s Fun & Relaxed Wedding Photographer – Katie Kavanagh shares her favourite 3 images and why she loves them so much.
WHY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?
I’ve been photographing weddings for 12 years now. I tried all manner of photography, from in-studio family sessions to nature photography. But when I shot my first wedding, I was hooked. It was in France, the whole thing was in French (I don’t speak French) and I was dressed like a guest, heels and all.
Photographing weddings combines my love of photography and my love of people, it brings me to so many great places and I meet so many wonderful people. It’s such an honour that people invite me into their homes and their hearts week in, week out. It’s the best job in the world. Guests often ask me “How do you know the couple?” and I love it, it’s like I’m their lifelong friend, and in some cases I do hang on to my couples after the wedding is done.

Nadia is not your typical girly girl, so a typical bridal portrait was never gonna cut it. I love the movement of the hair across her face, the shape of her mouth as she reacts to the wind whipping her hair and I love the colours.
This couple chose this location for their couples shoot because it’s where they go every weekend with their daughter for a stroll along the river. I love the ordinariness of the people out for a picnic on a hot day while the couple stroll by in all their finery.
I just love how happy these two are here, who wouldn’t want to look this happy in their wedding photos?
WHY NINE DOTS?
I attended the online Gathering during Covid and loved the whole vibe of NineDots. The standard of work by NineDots members is incredible and they’re so generous with sharing their tips and advice. I attended my first in person Gathering in 2022 and I couldn’t get over how friendly and approachable everyone was. It’s a very open and honest space to grow and learn.
