Changing the world – one head at a time!

In my talk, I want to discuss the importance of a personal project that helps others—something where the social aspect is particularly visible. How do you approach such a project, and what drives you to do it?

I’ll share my experience of following the street barber who provides free haircuts to the homeless and houseless community, and the profound impact of this initiative. Through this project, I truly began to see people for who they are and, more importantly, recogniSed the significance of doing so. Truly seeing people works like magic. It’s the recognition we all need.

With this talk, I hope to inspire others to find their own projects where they can make a difference, discover depth in their photography, and feel the power of our medium.

A few weeks ago, I experienced something that profoundly changed my perspective. While riding the train, my friends and I met a young man experiencing homelessness. Despite his circumstances, his infectious charm, wit, and openness in sharing his story left an indelible mark on all of us. Though our interaction was brief, his resilience in the face of adversity was both inspiring and heartbreaking. In the weeks since, I haven’t been able to shake the thought of how many others are silently facing similar struggles in our communities.

This encounter sparked something in me. As successful photographers, we’re incredibly fortunate to make our living doing what we love – capturing beautiful moments and telling stories through our lenses. Now, I feel compelled to use our privileged position to make a meaningful difference.
