Well, we’ve waited long enough! We are super excited to welcome you to the NineDots Gathering 2021 and wanted to give you all the info you need for the event.

For us, this has always been our passion project. We know there has been an explosive increase in multi-speaker events over the last five years but we believe the NineDots Gathering is something different and unique and we’re so thankful you’re a part of this – the sixth NineDots Gathering!


We founded NineDots in November 2014 and we could never imagined being here, ready to host for the sixth time at Bounce in London, and with NineDots being the strongest and most supportive wedding photography community in the world! Everything you need to know about the event is below, but let us know if you’ve got any questions or need anything from us.


REGISTRATION DRINKS

EVENING OF 14TH NOV FROM 7PM

We will be holding a registration drinks event on Sunday night for all our attendees to get their wristbands for entry to the event and as a chance for people to meet up for a casual drink and say hello etc. If you’re in London we’d love to see you there too but it’s totally up to you!

THE GATHERING VENUE

DOORS OPEN 8:15 AM EACH DAY

Bounce (Farringdon – NOT SHOREDITCH!) 121 Holborn EC1N 2TD (near Chancery Lane Tube)

There is a Bounce in Shoreditch so please don’t get confused and go to the wrong one – every year someone does – don’t be that person this year!

The Bounce we will be at is on Holborn, just by Hatton Gardens. The entrance is slightly hidden but is next to Boots Pharmacy.

The nearest tube is Chancery Lane – take exit 2 to the street. Farringdon station is also only a 4 minute walk.

The venue is split into two rooms. The large open room where the main stage presentations and most of the day takes place, and the side room; ‘The Jacques Room’ – this is where the Mini Masterclasses take place during lunch and breaks. When the last talks finish at 4pm we can all move into the Jacques room for the ping pong tournament on day one and the Q&A session on day 2.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION: MAIN STAGE

We don’t use a physical stage at the Gathering so you will be on the same level as the audience. The screen is 1080p 16:9 so to maximise screen space you might want to think about doing your presentations in this format.

We will give you a headset mic to wear for your presentation, and a clicker to move the slides on. If you prefer there’s a handheld mic. There is a lectern at the front so you will be able to see the laptop which will also show you how long you’ve been speaking for as well as any presenter notes etc. Your main stage presentation must be a maximum of 55 minutes and we have to be strict with this due to the timing restraints of the venue we use.

There will be an HDMI cable to plug in your laptop if you want to use your own. It must also have a headphone jack socket on it if your presentation needs audio. We will have a USB-C -> HDMI adaptor that you can use if needed

If your laptop doesn’t have BOTH an HDMI AND HEADPHONE SOCKET, please send your presentation (and any associated fonts) prior to the Gathering and we will install it onto our main laptop. Please send this to hello@nine-dots.co either via WeTransfer or Dropbox.

You’ll need to come and get set up 15 mins prior to the start of your presentation. Ideally, we’d like you to come first thing in the morning for testing between 7am and 8am if you want to use your own laptop so we can make sure it all works perfectly or make other arrangements if needs be. Please have your presentation and fonts on a USB drive too just in case of technical failure!

THE VIBE

We always wanted the NineDots Gathering to have a boutique, intimate vibe and not feel too much like a conference. We kept the numbers low (150 total) for this reason and we’ve got a venue where everyone can stay together and we’re providing food, drinks and snacks so that you and our ticket holders don’t have to worry about any of that.

We would really love you to hang out with everyone and join in the ping pong and banter during the breaks. We really want everyone to feel on the same level.

We want people to feel like they learned loads and got super inspired but also had a brilliant time and made some awesome new friends.


FOOD + DRINK

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH IS PROVIDED

Breakfast and lunch is included all three days. Our attendees arrive from 8:15am both days which is at least 45 mins before the presentations begin. The food will be buffet style and there should be something to please most people. The ping pong bats and balls will be out and we encourage as much ping pong action as possible.

You’ll have the option to order food from the bar at the day 1 ping pong tournament party and the food will be brought into our private party room, the same on day two or you’re welcome to head out into London for dinner obviously. We are taking you all out for some food between the end of day 3 and the after party in the evening. You can let us know if you’ve got any dietary requirements using the form at the bottom of this page.


TIMINGS – IMPORTANT

MAINSTAGE: 55 MINS // MINI-MASTERCLASS: 25-30 MINS

Because of our venue, we HAVE to finish the talks on time at 4pm and we’ve crafted a schedule that is quite tight so we really need you to stick to the allotted time for your presentations. That’s 55 minutes maximum for mainstage presenters, and 25-30 mins maximum for mini-masterclass presentations – this INCLUDES Q+A time. It’s up to you whether you build a bit of Q+A time into the end of your talks but we can’t add this on at the end.

MONDAY Ping Pong TOURNAMENT

Random doubles
Yes, there is a trophy!

After day 1 we move through to the evening room for drinks followed by the ping pong tournament from 6pm. You’ll be randomly assigned a doubles partner to keep it fair! We will stay in this room until midnight having fun and also maybe busting out some karaoke… you know how it is! You’ll also be able to order food from the bar.


TUESDAY Q&A SESSION

5pm Tues 16th Nov at Bounce

At the close of the presentations on day 2 (Tuesday) we are moving through to the evening room for an informal Q&A session with all the presenters and hosts. We’d love it if you are able to stay on and take part in this – it will be lighthearted and good fun – with a chance for some general discussion as well for attendees to ask any specific questions they might have. Food and drinks will be available to purchase from the bar and when the Q&A winds down you are welcome to stay for more socialising if you want!

Please note: We will be introducing all the presenters at the beginning of day one (Monday) so it would be great if you could be there for that, this is based on feedback from previous years where some presenters hadn’t spoken before the end of day two so nobody knew who they were in the Q&A. If you can’t make the start of Monday, then we’ll hopefully do the same on Tuesday morning before we begin.

We are taking you out for some food & drinks after the close of day three, before the party! It’s on us and we’ll let you know the location in advance!

Your conduct and behaviour while with us

We take our responsibilities as conference organisers extremely seriously. We want everyone to have a fun, happy, welcoming, safe, enjoyable time while at the NineDots Gathering and by walking through our doors you accept all the terms of our harassment and bullying policy and commit to treating everyone with respect. This applies to everyone involved – presenters, hosts and attendees. Tolerance level: zero.

Covid

Hopefully by now you’re all familiar with the C word. If you are flying to England you may have to arrange to book a PCR or Lateral Flow test as a condition of entry up to 2 days after arrival – please make sure you factor this in to your logistics – here is the current UK Government guidance and information (it’s changing regularly – so be aware)! We are asking that all attendees and speakers otherwise take a voluntary Lateral Flow Test less than 48 hrs in the run up to the event and also on day 2 of the Gathering if possible.
