NineDots Gathering 2020 presents Ian Weldon!
Ian Weldon is a photographer from the North of England predominantly photographing weddings, whilst also working on long term personal projects and commercial assignments. With only a brief period of studying photography at a local college, Ian is primarily self- taught. He has lectured on photography history at the Sunderland Visual and Performing Arts College and has taught photography at all levels, both academically and privately.
Over the last 10 years he has photographed more than 150 weddings in the UK and abroad and his individual style has led him to being feted as, ‘ le photographe de mariage le plus cool du monde’ (the coolest wedding photographer in the world) by Vice France, even while he continues to protest that he’s not a wedding photographer at all.
In 2019 Ian opened a solo exhibition at the Martin Parr Foundation in Bristol, where his work is now held in their permanent collection. Amazingly, this show was the first exhibition of wedding photography in a fine art context in the UK, possibly even the world. Ever. It also coincided with the publication of a monograph entitled ‘I Am Not A Wedding Photographer’ co published by the MPF and RRB Photo Books.
His photography has featured in numerous publications and websites world wide – BBC World News, The Guardian, CNN, The Observer, Creative Review, i-D and Spiegel Germany to name but a few.

I am not a Wedding Photographer
This presentation is about how I became the wedding photographer I continue to profess not to be.
